Happy Monday Friends,
If you’re planning a family photo session in Oahu and feeling nervous about how your kids will behave… you are definitely not alone.
One of the most common messages I get before sessions is:
“What if my kids don’t cooperate?”
And honestly? That’s completely okay.
As an Oahu family photographer, I can promise you that children do not need to sit perfectly still or smile perfectly at the camera to create beautiful photos. In fact, some of the best moments happen naturally in between the poses.
The cuddles, the running, the giggles, snack breaks, sandy toes, and little personalities are often what make your gallery feel real and meaningful.
My approach during sessions is very relaxed and child-led. Instead of forcing kids into stiff poses, I gently guide families through movement and interaction so everyone feels comfortable and connected.
Don’t Stress About Perfection
Some of the most beautiful family photos happen during the in-between moments. Your kids do not need to perform perfectly for your session to turn out beautifully.
I always encourage parents to focus more on loving on their family and less on getting everyone to “behave.”
Sometimes the little chaotic moments become the images families treasure the most years later.
Let Kids Be Themselves
Kids naturally want to explore, move, play, and interact with their environment — especially during beach sessions in Oahu.
Instead of fighting that energy, I work with it to create natural and joyful images that truly reflect your family.
Whether your child is shy, energetic, adventurous, or wants absolutely nothing to do with photos at first… that is completely normal.
Oahu Is Perfect for Relaxed Family Photos
One of the reasons I love photographing families in Oahu is because the beaches create such a relaxed environment for children.
Whether we’re at Kualoa Regional Park, Secret Island, Waimanalo Beach, or Lanikai Beach, kids usually have space to play, cuddle with parents, and simply be themselves.

Trust the Process
Many parents tell me during the session that they feel like everything is chaotic… and then they are shocked when they see the final gallery.
What feels chaotic in the moment often photographs beautifully.
The goal is not perfection — it’s connection.
