There is something incredibly special about bringing the entire family together in Hawaiʻi—and Kualoa Secret Island created the perfect setting for the Lancaster family’s portraits. Surrounded by palm trees, peaceful ocean views and the dramatic mountains of Oʻahu’s windward coast, this session felt relaxed, joyful and unmistakably Hawaiian.
A Family Session at Kualoa Secret Island
Family sessions are about documenting more than one beautiful group portrait. They are an opportunity to preserve all the relationships that make a family unique.
During the L family’s session, we created a mixture of full-family portraits, smaller family groupings, individual photographs of the children and meaningful images of couples together. This variety allowed everyone to receive photographs that felt personal while still telling the story of the family as a whole.
The family coordinated beautifully in shades of navy, blue and soft neutrals. Their outfits complemented the natural colors of the beach without looking overly matched. The fresh flower crowns and Hawaiian leis added a colorful island touch that looked especially beautiful against the ocean and greenery.
Why Secret Island Is Perfect for Family Photos
Kualoa Secret Island is one of the most breathtaking family photography locations on Oʻahu. The private-feeling shoreline offers a wonderful combination of soft sand, tropical palms, calm water and dramatic mountain views.
The scenery also provides plenty of variety without requiring families to travel between multiple locations. We can create photographs beside the water, beneath the palm trees and with the Kualoa mountains in the background—all during the same session.
Because Secret Island is quieter and more secluded than many public beaches, families can relax and enjoy their experience without navigating large crowds. Children have room to move and play, making it easier to capture both posed portraits and natural interactions.

My goal during every family session is to create a gallery that feels beautiful, connected and true to the people in front of my camera. I gently guide everyone into flattering positions while leaving room for personalities and relationships to unfold naturally.
For the Lancaster family, that meant photographing everyone together as well as giving each child and family grouping their own moment. We created timeless portraits looking toward the camera along with relaxed images near the shoreline and playful moments beneath the palms.
